Roots and Wings
Hispanic Heritage Group Art Show
Exhibit runs September 15th - 29th.
All Artists working in all mediums are invited to apply. The Hispanic Heritage Group Show is focusing on Hispanic Heritage, culture, and creativity!
Eligibility: Artists' Guild of Spartanburg Members or Non-Members... residing in Cherokee, Union, Laurens, Greenville, and Spartanburg Counties in South Carolina or from Polk and Rutherford Counties in North Carolina.
Eligible works: 2D and 3D mediums, with an emphasis on Hispanic Heritage.
Artists' Guild Members Can Submit For FREE! - All level Guild Members with current memberships only.
Entry [Non-Member Fee] - $20 to submit (non-refundable) Accepted works will be exhibited in the Artists’ Guild Gallery within the Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg, SC from September 15th through 29th. This first-floor gallery space receives high foot traffic and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday. You do not need to be an Artist' Guild of Spartanburg member to apply for this group show! Not a Member, Join Here!

These programs support everything from creative practice and collaboration to infrastructure, accessibility, and emergency preparedness. Whether you're an artist or an arts organization, there's likely a program designed to support your work and your community.

Artist Creative Practice Grants
Formerly known as Individual Artist Career Opportunity Grants
Amount: up to $2,000
For: Individual Artists
Supports artists’ creative and professional development through milestone activities that lead to substantial career advancement, or a thriving creative practice.

Arts in Community Grants
Formerly known as Presentation Grants and Traditional Arts Touring
Amount: up to $10,000
For: Arts Organizations and Individual Artists
Provides support to organizations, ensembles, artists, or artist collaboratives of any discipline in bringing arts and artists to a community.

*NEW* Arts Readiness, Relief, and Recovery Program
Amount: up to $1,000
For: Individual Artists
A new initiative inspired by South Arts' former ArtsReady and Emergency Preparedness, this grant supports artists impacted by Hurricanes Helene and/or Milton. Artists of any discipline may apply for funding to support their relief and recovery efforts, safeguarding their studios, protecting their practices, and preparing for emergencies.

Emerging Traditional Artist Program
Amount: up to $5,000
For: Individual Artists
Supports artists in Central Appalachia through South Arts’ In These Mountains initiative. This multi-year program offers artists intergenerational opportunities to share, teach, preserve, and carry forward folk and traditional arts by offering grant funding, peer connections, and professional development workshops.

Plein Air Painters Carolina
Plein Air Painters Carolina, based in Greenville, South Carolina.
Paint-outs feature our member artists coming
together to paint plein air at
specific locations and are usually followed by a show and tell.

Call for Artists: "Island State of Mind" Art Exhibit
Let your art take a vacation—and bring us along for the ride! We’re inviting local artists to submit tropical-themed, beach-inspired, or feel-good escapist works for “Island State of Mind,” a special art exhibit coinciding with the Spartanburg Little Theatre production of Escape to Margaritaville, the Jimmy Buffett musical.
What We’re Looking For:
Works that explore themes of island life, vacation vibes, escapism, ocean views, sunshine, tropical drinks, carefree living, or anything that feels like a warm breeze and good music. We highly encourage people to think beyond the hibiscus flower or sandy beach - show us what makes you drift away in Margaritaville!
All mediums welcome! Painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, digital, and more.
Exhibit Dates: July 11-20th
Location: Spartanburg Little Theatre Lobby, Chapman Cultural Center

Dear Artist,
We are thrilled to invite you to showcase your work at Arts in the Garden on October 4, 2025, a celebration of the beautiful fusion of art and nature! This event is all about bringing together the vibrant arts community and the people of Spartanburg, offering a unique opportunity to gain exposure and connect with fellow artists and art lovers. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to expand the Hatcher family of visitors!
As a visual artist, you’ll have the chance to set up a station to display and demonstrate your art in the stunning garden surroundings. You’ll be able to engage with attendees, share your creative process, and sell your work—keeping100% of your sales! The participation fee is just $35, and there’s no commission on any sales you make.
We’re excited to offer flexibility in how you choose to participate. You can select time slots between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to either exhibit for the entire day or just part of it. Please note, participation is limited to the first 40 artists who reply, so don’t miss out!
Last time, Arts in the Garden attracted over 1,000 visitors, and we’re expecting even more this year! The event will be widely promoted through local media and social channels to help draw a large and diverse crowd.

All of us at South Arts – our board and staff – want to express empathy and concern for all who have been affected by the recent storms and flooding across the region.
We thank everyone who is working so hard to help those in need and recognize that recovery will take much time, patience and resources. Below are some of the resources we’re aware of that may be helpful to artists, arts organizations and communities who have been impacted. We understand that recent storms have impacted many of you, and we want to offer our support during this challenging time. To help ease any burdens, we’re providing flexibility on grant application due dates and grant reporting deadlines. Your well-being is our priority, so please take the time you need to recover and regroup. If you have any questions or need further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to the Program Director you're working with. We’re here for you.

Cultural institutions, arts organizations, and artists and performing groups can call the National Heritage Responders hotline: 202-661-8068.
The National Heritage Responders, a team of trained conservators and collections care professionals administered by the Foundation for Advancement in Conservation, are available 24/7 to provide advice and guidance.

WANTED: ART INSTRUCTORS
Kids Upstate is seeking a part-time art instructor
to teach in its school-based afterschool
Kids Clubs in Spartanburg County.
Applicants should be:
• experienced artists and/or art educators who love working with children
• capable of teaching 1st – 5th graders a variety of art media including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage and photography
• available to work from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at least 3-4 afternoons per week Mon. – Fri.
• energetic, fun, patient, and flexible
• have reliable transportation and be willing and able to travel to the
above-mentioned locations
• Bachelor’s degree in fine art or art education and experience working with Elementary school-aged children preferred
Compensation depends on experience and qualifications. Interested and qualified applicants may email a resume and 4-5 samples of their art and/ or student art to nikki@kidsupstate.org.
